Lancaster County businesses and community members are gaining some new resources in the push to go green.
The Lancaster County Center of Excellence in Renewable Energy and the Obetz/Amerigreen Renewable Energy Center held a ceremony this morning in Penn Township to kick off both ventures.
The county center's mission is to provide training, support and guidance for initiatives involving energy generation and conservation and/or renewable energy, according to the group's Web site.
Its primary stakeholders are the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Economic Development Company of Lancaster County, the Lancaster County Workforce Investment Board, the Penn State Cooperative Extension in Lancaster County and Lancaster County government, according to the center's Web site.
The Renewable Energy Center, located in Penn Township, is a public showcase intended to educate the community about the forms of alternative energy.
The center was developed by Penn Township-based Worley & Obetz Inc., which offers heating and cooling-system installation and service, propane and petroleum fuels and solar-energy and geothermal systems. The firm also sells biodiesel and bioheating oil through its sister company, Amerigreen.
